Mrbarnk.com is the personal website and engineering blog of Bankole Emmanuel. This policy explains how information is handled when you read the site, leave a comment, or contact me. For privacy questions or requests, contact hello@mrbarnk.com. Please do not include sensitive information in your first message.
Browsing, hosting and security
The site is hosted with Hostinger and uses WordPress and LiteSpeed Cache. Hosting and security systems may process your IP address, browser information, requested pages, timestamps and error records to deliver pages, prevent abuse and troubleshoot problems. Cached copies of public pages help the site load faster. Service providers process information as needed to operate and protect the site.
Comments and account information
Where comments are enabled, the comment form collects the information you enter, including your name, email address, optional website and comment, together with your IP address and browser user agent for moderation and spam detection. Your email address is not displayed publicly. Approved comments and the name and website you supply may be public.
WordPress can send an anonymized hash of your email address to Gravatar to display an avatar. See Automattic’s privacy policy. If you have a site account, WordPress stores your profile information and administrators can access it to manage the site. Password-reset messages can include the requesting IP address.
Cookies and browser storage
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. WordPress uses cookies for sign-in and account preferences. If you choose to remember your details when commenting, your name, email and website are saved in cookies for one year. A login-page test cookie lasts for the browser session. Login cookies normally last two days, screen-preference cookies one year, and the Remember Me option keeps a login for two weeks. An editing cookie records a post ID for one day. These account cookies apply when you use those features, rather than to every reader.
You can remove or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies can affect sign-in and other site features. Removing cookies does not remove information already submitted in a comment or message.
Analytics
Google Analytics is not currently used on the public site. If analytics services are introduced, this policy will be updated to explain the information collected, the provider involved and your choices before those services are enabled.
Planned Google AdSense advertising
Mrbarnk.com plans to use Google AdSense, subject to approval. This section describes how advertising will work if it is enabled; it does not mean Google ads are currently running.
When Google ads are enabled, third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the Internet. Advertising providers may also use web beacons, IP addresses and other identifiers to deliver ads, measure performance and detect fraud.
You can manage or opt out of personalized Google advertising in Google My Ad Center. You can also visit AboutAds choices to opt out of personalized advertising from participating third-party vendors. Opting out of personalization does not necessarily stop ads or all cookies. More information is available in Google’s advertising technology policy and Google’s partner-site data-use explanation.
Before personalized ads are served to visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a Google-certified consent management platform will be configured to present the required disclosures and consent choices. Where consent is required for cookies or personal-data processing, it must be obtained before that processing starts. The consent message will identify the advertising providers used and offer a way to revisit your choices.
External links, embedded content and contact
Links to LinkedIn, GitHub and other websites take you to services with their own privacy practices. Clicking a link does not give this site control over the destination. If an article includes third-party embedded content, that provider may receive your IP address and browser details and use cookies or track interactions as if you visited its site, particularly if you are signed in there.
If you email hello@mrbarnk.com, your email address, message and any attachments are processed to respond and handle your request. Email services process messages to deliver and store correspondence. If you choose to contact me through LinkedIn instead, LinkedIn processes your message under its privacy policy.
Sharing, retention and your choices
Information may be processed by hosting and technical service providers, Google when its services are used, Gravatar when avatars are used, and the external services you choose to visit. Providers may process data outside your country under their own applicable terms and safeguards. Information may also be disclosed where required to comply with law or protect the site’s security.
WordPress retains comments and their metadata unless removed, so moderation and follow-up discussions remain possible. Account information is retained while needed to administer the account. Operational records and correspondence are retained as needed for security, troubleshooting, responding to requests and applicable obligations; backup copies may persist after live records are removed.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information held by this site by contacting hello@mrbarnk.com. I may need to verify that a request concerns your information. Some records may need to be retained for legal, administrative or security reasons. Depending on where you live, additional privacy rights and the right to complain to your local data-protection authority may apply.
